“AI · 12%”: the book was written with an assistant
What the AI gauge says, how Exaratio measures it and what it can't say.

- Look at the work's presentation: if it was written with an assistant, it says so in AI assistant.
A sentence says that it was written with an AI assistant, which one and when, and how much of the text is its own. Beside it, a needle gauge shows it from 0 to 100.
The gauge
The needle marks the part of the text the assistant wrote, and the window below says it in figures: “AI · 12%”. At rest, on the left, it is 0%; all the way to the right, 100%.
- Characters are counted, without spaces, in the book's prose: what you read. Titles, cards and the author's working notes don't count.
- It is rounded. If anything of the assistant remains, however little, it says at least 1%, and the sentence says “less than 1%”.
- 0% means the assistant wrote in the book and none of its text remains today: the author rewrote or removed it. That's why the sentence still says so.
- In a work still being written, the figure is today's. In an edition it is the one from when it was generated, and it doesn't change.
- No figure, only the sentence: the book was remade from an edition, which doesn't keep who wrote what, and it can no longer be measured.
Where you see it
- In the work's presentation in the Reader (The work's presentation and its book).
- On the credits page of an exported or printed book, alongside the book's other details.
- On the exaratio.com page that opens when you scan the code of a sealed edition, which says it as exaratio.com signed it (Check that a book is authentic).
How Exaratio knows
Exaratio marks every character that an AI assistant writes through its tools, and asks the author first whether to allow it (When your assistant writes in the book). It doesn't guess by reading the text, and the assistant can't remove it.
What it doesn't say
- It doesn't say what the assistant did: a corrected typo and a whole chapter mark the book alike; the figure says how much.
- It doesn't prove a person wrote the rest: what the author pastes from another program can't be seen. A book without the mark doesn't say “AI-free”: it says nothing.
- It doesn't say whether the text is original or who holds its rights.
