Your work is yours: what happens to your works if…

Exaratio's six guarantees about your works, and what happens if your license expires, if you lose your internet connection or if your computer shuts down. · 2 min read

Every Exaratio license comes with six guarantees. The full text is at exaratio.com/Continuidad.

The six guarantees

  1. Your work lives with you. Every work is saved on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to any cloud and nobody reads it: not us, not anyone else.
  2. You write offline. You only need the internet to activate your license or download a new version.
  3. You can always take it with you. Export your work whenever you want to Markdown, Word, EPUB, PDF, RTF and Kindle (Export: formats and options).
  4. Without an active license, Exaratio stays by your side. It becomes a reader: your works always open and can be read, and you can export what you wrote.
  5. Perpetual licenses never expire. Your version works with no time limit. If the activation system changes, we'll give you, with advance notice, a version that works without it.
  6. Changes come with notice. If we ever adjust these guarantees, we'll let you know by email at least 30 days in advance.

If your computer shuts down while you write

While you write, Exaratio saves a copy of your progress every 20 seconds. If your computer shuts down suddenly, it offers to recover it when you open the work again (Nothing gets lost: history and undo).

If you make a mistake

Any change to the work, whether yours or your assistant's, can be undone with Ctrl+Z⌘Z, even after you close it, for the days the history is kept. Only Review → Mark a new version sets an end point: what you'd done up to that point can no longer be undone, and that same dialog offers you a backup first (Nothing gets lost: history and undo).

Your works are signed

Every work you save carries your author signature. When you open it in reading mode, Exaratio shows who wrote it and whether anyone changed it afterward (Read your work as your reader will).
