- Work → Generate edition.
- Go through the steps: The book, What is missing, What travels, See as a reader and Generate.
- Click Generate the edition.
It's saved to a new file, never over your work, and its number is noted in the manuscript.
Why an edition
Your .exar is your workshop: all your books, the whole world, your notes. An edition is a book as it goes out into the
world:
- You don't send the wrong file: it doesn't carry your notes or the secrets of the books to come.
- It's always the same book: "Edition 3" says the same today and in a year. To correct, write in your work and generate 4.
- It's lighter: it carries only what's read.
The steps
- What is missing: reviewed as a publisher would. What's under Prevents generating must be resolved; the rest (An official book has it; you decide) are warnings.
- What travels: which entities, characteristics, relationships, images, facts and timelines go in the book. Exaratio suggests; you decide. The first time, review the suggestion and click Accept the proposal for what is left. The book's paper is under The book’s paper.
- See as a reader: Open it as the reader will see it opens the edition as the reader will have it.
- Generate: how you want the images (As they are, Balanced, Compact or Minimum). Your work doesn't change.
What never travels
Your notes and annotations, the workshop, statuses, tags and plots, continuity rules and warnings, the series' other books and anything unused. What travels and the book reveals later stays covered until the reader gets there.
Numbers
They only go up: deleting an edition doesn't give its number back. The next one starts from what you decided in the last.
In a series
Each book has its Generate edition button in the series panel.
