Exaratio won't open or closes

What to do if Exaratio won't start, if you see "Exaratio could not start" or if it closed suddenly while you were writing. · 2 min read

If you see "Exaratio could not start"

Before opening its window, Exaratio checks that it can use what it needs: your preferences, its workspace, your license data and the Windows component that displays its window. If something fails, instead of the editor you see Exaratio could not start, with the reason and what's affected.

  1. Close any other Exaratio windows and open it again.
  2. Check that your disk has free space.
  3. If it keeps happening, open Diagnosis for support, click Copy diagnosis and send it to info@exaratio.com, or to your company's IT support.

There's no need to delete your settings or change permissions: Exaratio doesn't touch your saved data.

If no window appears

Exaratio needs a Windows component to display its window. The installer downloads it if it's missing, so install Exaratio while you're online. If you installed it offline, run the installer again (Install Exaratio and activate your license).

If it still won't start, Exaratio opens a report of what happened in your browser. Send it to info@exaratio.com.

One work, one window

Each work opens in its own window. If you double-click a work that's already open, Exaratio brings up the window that has it, so you don't edit it twice at the same time.

If it closed suddenly

If your computer shut down or Exaratio closed while you were writing, open the work again: Exaratio offers you what you hadn't saved yet (Nothing gets lost: history and undo).

If Exaratio closed suddenly with a work open, next time it doesn't open it on its own, in case that work was what brought it down. It lets you know and lets you choose: Open it now or prepare a diagnostic.

Report a problem

If something goes wrong and you want help, choose Help → Report a problem. Exaratio prepares a diagnostic with its version, the Windows version and the last things it did when starting, opening and closing. It doesn't include your works or what you wrote, and it isn't sent anywhere on its own.

  • Copy the diagnostic, to paste it into an email to info@exaratio.com.
  • Open the diagnostic folder, to attach the file.

It works without a license too.
