Annotations and footnotes
Leave comments for yourself on a sentence, which don't go into the book, and add footnotes, which do. · 2 min read
Exaratio has two kinds of notes. Annotations are for you: a reminder attached to a sentence that never goes into the book. Footnotes belong to the book and are included when you export.
Annotate a sentence
- Select the word or the sentence.
- Choose Insert → Annotation, or right-click → New annotation.
- Type the annotation and accept.
The sentence is highlighted. When you hover over it, you see the annotation next to the page. If you change the text around it, the annotation stays with its sentence.
To change it or remove it, right-click the sentence and choose Edit annotation or Remove the annotation.
Footnotes
- Put the cursor where the note's reference mark goes.
- Choose Insert → Footnote.
- Type the Text of the note and choose Where it goes.
With Like the book, the note goes wherever the others go: in the PDF, whatever you choose in its export options; in Word and RTF, at the bottom of the page. EPUB, Kindle and Markdown have no pages, so there they always go at the end of the chapter.
The chapter's notes are listed below the text. To change one, click its reference number.
Long notes: workshop documents
For longer notes, such as research on a period or the plan for a chapter, create a document of the note type. It belongs to the Author's workshop: it's in the manuscript, but it doesn't go into the book (Chapters, parts and documents: organizing the work).
