Get help without leaving Exaratio

F1 opens help next to what you're doing and suggests what you're most likely looking for.

  1. Press F1F1, or Help → Exaratio guide.
  2. Help opens on the right, without covering what you're doing.
  3. Press F1 again or Esc to close it.
What F1 suggests

When you press F1, Exaratio looks at what you did last and offers you, under Maybe you're looking for this, up to four answers with the reason for each:

  • you have a dialog open, and help covers that dialog;
  • you opened a dialog and canceled it, once or several times;
  • a command couldn't be done, or wasn't available when you asked for it;
  • you used something a moment ago, or several times in a row;
  • the cursor is in a part of the window (the page, the manuscript, the ribbon…).

If there is nothing to suggest, it opens on the home page. See all the help takes you to the home page from the suggestion.

Exaratio remembers what you did only while it is open: it isn't saved and it doesn't leave your computer.

With a dialog open

F1 also works with a dialog in front, which is when you need it most. The dialog moves aside to the left so help doesn't cover it (if the window is narrow, help covers it partly). Esc closes help first; the dialog stays open with whatever you had typed.

Inside help
  • The home page has the same doors as the help on exaratio.com: Your first book, Choose what you're doing with each verb, For reference and The parts of the window.
  • The search box finds answers as you type. If what you're looking for is in a collapsed block, the answer opens with that block expanded.
  • Links open the answer inside the panel. ← (Back) goes back to the previous one; Backspace does too, if you're not typing in the search box.
  • At the bottom, the help for the other side: if you write, the help for reading, and the other way around. If you collaborate on someone else's work, the home page takes you to what is yours to do.
  • Answers carry no images: the real window is the image.
Show me

In each part of the window, Show me highlights that part of the real window and dims the rest for a few seconds. It turns off by itself, with a click or with Esc.

Keyboard shortcuts

Help → Keyboard shortcuts opens in help the list of all shortcuts, ordered by menu (All keyboard shortcuts).

What language it is in

Help comes inside Exaratio's language pack and works offline. An answer that isn't translated into your language yet is shown in English, with a notice. If your language pack doesn't include help, the panel offers you Open the help on exaratio.com.
