When your assistant writes in the book

Exaratio asks you first; what it writes is marked, and the book will say forever that it was written with an AI assistant.

यह उत्तर अभी आपकी भाषा में नहीं है।

  1. Have the work open in Exaratio and ask your assistant to write.
  2. The first time, Exaratio asks whether you allow it. Click Let it write or No.

From then on, what your assistant writes in the book's prose is marked as its own, and the book says so forever.

What counts as writing

Writing is putting new characters into the prose of a document of the book: paragraphs, inner headings, the text of a text box, a footnote and an image caption. A corrected typo is enough.

It doesn't count:

  • The document's title, also when it appears as the heading of its page.
  • Deleting, moving or formatting: bold, alignment, styles. Moving a paragraph doesn't count either: it takes along whatever was already its own or yours.
  • Everything that isn't prose: cards, names, dates, calendars, relationships, mentions, author notes, synopses.
  • The workshop: notes, cards and whatever is in folders, while they stay there.
  • The reports of a review: they go to the workshop (A review's report).
  • What is imported from a file, even if your assistant imports it, and what you paste.

Exaratio detects it by comparing the text before and after each change; it doesn't depend on what the assistant says. What was already there keeps its mark even if you touch it up, and what you write never takes it.

The question

The question is asked once per connection: each time your assistant connects again, or you open the work again, Exaratio asks again. While you decide, your assistant waits; if you say No, it is told you didn't allow it and the work doesn't change.

If the book doesn't say yet that it was written with an assistant, the question comes in red and explains that, from then on, it will say so forever. If it already says so, it only reminds you that what it writes will be marked.

With the work closed, your assistant cannot write in the book: it opens the work itself and has no one to ask. It will ask you to open it. Cards, dates, reports and the workshop it can still change.

Forever

As soon as a book's prose has one character written by an assistant, the book remembers it: the months and the name the assistant gave when it connected. It is not removed by rewriting that text, deleting it or with Ctrl+Z⌘Z. The Reader's card says so, as do the credits page of every export, every edition and the seal that anyone scanning its code checks (“AI · 12%”: the book was written with an assistant).

What changes is the figure: the gauge says what part of the text is still its own today, and in an edition, the part when it was generated. A work where your assistant wrote and you later rewrote everything says 0 %, but it still says it was written with an assistant.

If you'd rather not have the mark, ask your assistant to propose the change and apply it yourself: what you write doesn't carry it.

See what it wrote

In Review, What the assistant wrote tints in the text what your assistant wrote, so you know what to rewrite if you want to. Click it again to remove the tint. It is off when you open the work and is never shown while reading.

From the workshop to the book

Your assistant can write in the workshop without asking. If you move into the book a workshop document that has text of its own, Exaratio warns you first, in red if the book doesn't say so yet; click Move it into the book to go on. If the assistant moves it, it asks as when it writes.

When merging a copy that brings text written by an assistant, you are also asked before it is applied (Merging a collaborator's copy).

What it can't know
  • What is pasted can't be seen: Exaratio doesn't detect AI text you copy from another program.
  • What is imported arrives without the mark, wherever it comes from.
  • So a book without the mark doesn't prove a person wrote it, and Exaratio never says “AI-free”.
